KUALA LUMPUR:  Mar 25, 2023

Jockey-turned-trainer Richard Victor Lines achieved a personal milestone when OISIN EXPRESS fought his way to a narrow win in a Class 4 – 1200m handicap at Sungei Besi here today.
It was the Englishman’s 1,100th winner since he established his stables in Malaysia 21 years ago in 2002.
Since then, Lines has been crowned champion MRA Malaysia trainer numerous times.
But as the magical milestone drew near, the trainer went through an exasperating time. There were numerous minor placings last couple of weeks, punctured by a solitary win last weekend, before he finally hit the 1,100 mark today.
DOCTOR GINGER made a early breakaway today’s race, with OISIN EXPRESS, ridden by Laercio De Souza, leading the chasing pack.
DOCTOR GINGER was 10 lengths clear of the field from the 800m and was still three to four lengths clear at the 200m. De Souza pulled the stick on OISIN EXPRESS and the Argentinean gelding responded, rapidly closing the gap in the run home to get up in the last few strides to win by a neck.
“We have a frustrating run of seconds of late so it was nice to see OISIN EXPRESS get there on the post, helped by the leader slowing down the last bit,” said Lines.
“Reaching the 1,100, it’s been a team effort through and through and I have been lucky to have the support of good owners which every trainer needs.”
On the win by OISIN EXPRESSS today, he said “It didn’t look an overly strong race and he did appreciate the give in the track.”
Placed once in five starts in Singapore, OISIN EXPRESS has now won three of 15 outings under Lines in Malaysia.
