Jockey M Zaki appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on YES MAN. In this regard, he explained that after his mount jumped only fairly, he had adopted an aggressive approach at the start in order to obtain a forward position as instructed. He further explained that he was of the view that his mount had gained sufficient momentum approaching the 800M to create a position on his inside, particularly when considering the fast early speed of the race, however into the turn, the three (3) horses on his inside had elected to continue to hold their positions which resulted in him being cast wider then he would have preferred.

He further explained that after being forced wide, he elected to hold his position as in his view, he was attempting to go forward or back as this would be more prejudicial to his mount. The Panel noted the explanation of Jockey M Zaki which was corroborated by the video footage of the race.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey S John, the rider of JIN SAKAMOTO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding JIN SAKAMOTO, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to GULF EAGLE between the 1000M and the 900M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S John’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) Selangor Turf Club race day with effect from 7 April 2025 and to expire on 12 April 2025, both dates inclusive. In lieu of one (1) Malaysian race day, he was also fined RM1,500/-. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App Z Syafifie, the rider of ROCKY PEGASUS, in the presence of his Employing Trainer’s representative, WC Lim, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(6) for failing to ride his horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that he failed to ride ROCKY PEGASUS out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards, thereby prejudicing his opportunity to obtain second placing.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App Z Syafifie’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months with effect from 7 April 2025 and to expire on 6 June 2025, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
The Selangor Turf Club Appeal Panel heard the above appeal on Tuesday, 6 May 2025. After considering submissions from App Z Syafifie and the Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Appeal Panel upheld the appeal in part, against the conviction under MRA Rule 44(6). On the issue of penalty, the Appeal Panel reduced the suspension from a period of two (2) months to a suspension of one (1) month. Additionally, he was also fined the sum of RM5,000/-. After hearing evidence on the issue from App Z Syafifie, it further ordered the suspension to be served after his last carded ride. App Z Syafifie is suspended with effect from 14 April 2025 to 13 May 2025. The deposit was ordered to be refunded

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey C Henrique, the rider of SKY EIGHT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding SKY EIGHT, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to AHONE, CHIEF OF ARMY and THUNDER HERO at the 1000M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey C Henrique’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) Malaysian race day, to be deferred and served on 13 April 2025. In lieu of one (1) Malaysian race day, he was also fined RM1,500/-. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

An inquiry will be opened in order to establish why TANTHEMAN (App M Akmazani) was tightened for galloping room at the 1000M.
