(M Ewe) Dwelt when the start was effected, losing considerable ground. 1 Starting Stall test. Subsequently travelled wide throughout. Inclined to race erratically near the 1000M and had to be straightened when laying inwards.

(App M Lukman) Shifted in, bumping runner near the 350M and continued to shift in, carrying runner inwards. Apprentice was reprimanded for shifting in at this stage.

RACE 2 (R838) Class 5B – 1400M (A lc)

3 JJ STAR
(M Ewe) Withdrawn at 12:44pm: It was ascertained that the gelding was stepping short and stumbling at the start – 1000M/vet (2 weeks embargo) & to be ridden unaided to the start.

(App WW Cheah) Raced wide and in a fierce manner from its outside stall throughout.

When questioned regarding the poor performance, Trainer NM Selvan advised he had only recently taken over CHER’s training. He stated that he had instructed that it should be ridden in a similar fashion to when winning. He could offer no explanation but undertook not to start the mare for 3 weeks. A post-race veterinary examination of CHER revealed no significant finding.

(S Ruzaini) Lost ground when racing greenly near the 700M.

(App AB Riduan) Had to be checked running to the 900M.

(App R Nuqman) Inclined to over-race in the early stages. Restrained off heels near the 900M.

(App M Lukman) Shifted in passing the 950M, crowding runners. *(See Report)
11 PURE PERFECTION
(App WW Cheah) Restrained near the 900M in general crowding. Carried inwards passing the 900M, having to be restrained. *(See Report)
At the conclusion of an inquiry, App M Lukman (ARAGON PEGASUS) in the presence of his Employing Trainer, WC Lim, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted in when insufficiently clear.
In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App M Lukman’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days, to be served cumulatively with any other suspension, with effect from 21 August 2023 and to expire on 2 September 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

(Z Khairil) Inquiry into the running and handling of the gelding was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
6 STARDICE
(D Prastiyou) Raced erratically in the early stages.
7 WAIMEA
(App I Fikri) Whilst being loaded, the head gear came off the gelding. After being replaced, the gelding then refused to enter the stalls and subsequently withdrawn at 5:18pm. In light of its history – 2 Starting Stall tests.

(App R Nuqman) Laid inwards in the straight.

(App A Suriya) Shifted in, having to straightene several times over the final 200M. Rider advised to moderate the use of his whip.
The Stewards, on Thursday, 10 August 2023, inquired into running and handling of QUASAR in the above race. Evidence was taken from Jockey Z Khairil and Trainer NM Selvan, the rider and trainer of QUASAR respectively.
Trainer NM Selvan stated that he had instructed that QUASAR be ridden in a midfield position as was customary over the 1200M. Whilst he believed the gelding was best suited by racing on a softer track, he was comfortable with the state of the track as being suitable.
Jockey Z Khairil confirmed the instructions and advised that after jumping well, he had been in a nice position midfield, given that the leaders had gone very hard. Running to the 800M turn, he had been outside PACIFIC ARMANI (App R Nuqman) (placed second) and in advance of MARTIN VJ (App A Suriya) (winner) when he attempted to take up a better position closer to the fence but had received an appeal from App A Suriya who he believed was being crowded slightly. He had thus stayed in his three (3) wide position until straightening where he had struck QUASAR back handed on two (2) occasions. He had then ridden in his consistent manner using the whip on numerous occasions. He was of the opinion QUASAR had neither stopped nor progressed finishing a well beaten seventh (7th).
The Stewards advised Jockey Z Khairil that they had concerns related to his true purpose when he had remained in three (3) wide position early in the race. He was advised that he must ride every mount in a purposeful and diligent manner.
Trainer NM Selvan was advised that it was expected that QUASAR be ridden in a similar fashion at its next starts.
