Veered outwards on jumping.
*When questioned as to why he had ridden off the fence between the 800M and the turn into the straight, Jockey Y Aify (SUPER DRAGON) advised that he had wished to ensure he had a clear passage throughout and as such had not tracked the leader. He advised that SUPER DRAGON had not responded to his urging from the 600M and even in the straight.

(App A Suriya) Near the 150M, had to be restrained when running onto the heels of ROYAL FLUSH. The Stewards inquired into App A Suriya’s riding. *(See report)
11 MR CONNERY
(L De Souza) Was sitting back when the start was effected and slow to begin, was then blocked for a clear run in the straight.
After considering evidence from App A Suriya (YES BOSSY), in the presence of his Employing Trainer’s representative, Trainer SY Lim, and also Trainer KF Coetzee, the Stewards found App A Suriya guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being:
1. His riding in the straight lacked any vigour and purpose; and
2. He took YES BOSSY inwards near the 300M and thereby, ran onto the heels of ROYAL FLUSH when he was in a position prior to this to take YES BOSSY to the outside to obtain a clear passage.
The Stewards took into consideration App A Suriya’s riding record, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months, to be deferred, with effect from 7 February 2022 and to expire on 6 May 2022, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 4 (R166) CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE)

(App N Varmah) Reared after being placed in the stall, injuring its rider. Withdrawn at 2:16pm.

RACE 5 (R167) CLASS 4 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE)

(App R Nuqman) Shifted in causing LUCKY TIGER to be checked near the 150M. Rider suspended *(See report) BANG BANG continued to lay inwards for the remainder of the race.
2 BELLA VELOCE
(CK Khaw) Checked near the 250M.
3 ISFAHAN
(Y Aify) Steadied at the turn into the straight. Had to be restrained near the 250M from the heels of LUCKY TIGER. Rider questioned regarding his riding. He advised that from its barrier, he had been instructed to attempt to find a reasonable position behind the pace, however, he had been unable to do so and had found himself rearward.
Trainer AB Abdullah stated that ISFAHAN was best suited over long distances and as such he believed the gelding was best ridden from behind. He further was of the opinion that ISFAHAN’s performance had been severely curtailed by the two (2) checks it had received.
In considering the evidence, the Stewards advised Jockey Y Aify that they did not believe they could substantiate a charge under the Rules, however, they issued him a warning that he would be expected to ride every horse to ensure that it was fully tested.

*When questioned regarding the performance, Trainer HY Cheng advised that XENA was inclined to miss the start and was best ridden in a patient manner as it resented being pushed. Jockey KC Tham advised that XENA had jumped moderately well and had shown no early pace and he had used the whip on the mare and had pushed it continuously from the 600M.

Jockey J Shankar (NOVA DASHING) subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Panel of Stewards considered the application for a stay which was granted. The appeal hearing against the penalty of the suspension of two (2) months will be held at a date to be fixed.
The Stewards inquired into Jockey J Shankar’s riding of NOVA DASHING in the above race. It was established that NOVA DASHING had dwelt at the start and lost considerable ground.

After considering evidence from Jockey J Shankar and Trainer S Siva, the rider and trainer of NOVA DASHING respectively and reviewing the film, the Stewards found Jockey J Shankar guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that he failed to improve his position between the 750M and 400M when racing unimpeded on the fence following the winner, GALLANT BLACK.
The Stewards took into consideration Jockey J Shankar’s riding record, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months with effect from 7 February 2022 and to expire on 6 April 2022, both dates inclusive, to be served concurrently with any other penalty. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
Jockey J Shankar’s (BLACK THORN) suspension for two (2) Selangor race days for careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in Race 7 on Sunday, 6 February 2022, which was to be served concurrently, shall be deferred to commence from 14 February 2022 and to expire on 12 March 2022, both dates inclusive,
On 6 February 2022, the Panel of Stewards fined Trainer S Siva RM1000/- under the provisions of MRA Rule 12(g) for failing to appear at this inquiry in a timely manner.
Jockey J Shankar (NOVA DASHING) subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Panel of Stewards considered the application for a stay which was granted. The appeal hearing against the penalty of the suspension of two (2) months will be held at a date to be fixed.
The Stay of Sentence against Jockey J Shankar’s suspension of two (2) months related to NOVA DASHING in Race 10 (R172) on 2 February 2022 (Wednesday), was withdrawn, and thus will commence from 14 March 2022 to 13 May 2022, both dates inclusive.
