Best Three-Year-Olds all set for the biggest prize
Malaysian racing fans should look no further than this weekend at the staging of the Final race of the Da Ma Cai Malaysia Three-Year-Old Championship on Sunday, November 4, 2007. The Championship featuring nine heats and one final was inaugurated this year in August and, by now has fully established itself as a carnival event and the talk-of-the-town amongst the horse owners, trainers and racing fans.
The Da Ma Cai Malaysia Three-Year-Old Championship is made up of three heats from each of the Malaysian Turf Clubs. Each home based heat offered prize money of RM75,000 and the winner of each heat automatically qualifies for the RM250,000 Championship Final. Two second-placed horses will also get a place in the final while the third-placed horse will qualify as the emergency acceptor.
Representing the Penang Turf Club contingent is Yharo, Big Zoom, Colourland Supreme, Colourland Way and Penang Prestige. Perak Turf Club will have Jazzmint Delight, Hot Ego, Speedy Wind, Easy Speed and Happy Victory while Selangor Turf Club’s team comprises Mighty Triple Ace, Jeram Fatt Choy, Ishbiliya, BrightandBeautiful and Jun Jin. The emergency acceptors are Winchester Wonder and Quick Sand from Penang Turf Club and Selangor Turf Club respectively.
The likely favourite for this 1,200 metres race is Jazzmint Delight, which has won three straight wins out of four runs and carries the second highest rating of 66. In its debut race, it leads all the way with plenty in hand.
The highly talented Mighty Triple Ace has chalked up two wins out of two runs by winning the Selangor Heat 1 easily and subsequently winning another race in open company by setting in 1.12.1 seconds despite an outside barrier.
Trainer K C Tiang’s Yharo, though winning by a short head, possessed enviable pedigree, sired by Scenic, and has good potential to win. Speedy Wind led all the way and won easily in Perak Heat 3 with good timing of 1.12.2 seconds.
Promising Ishbiliya won the Selangor Heat 2 beating Quick Sand and has a bright chance for a treble. Another contender, Jeram Fatt Choy, could be a long shot and although ranked an outsider, it should not be taken lightly.
“The three Turf Clubs in Malaysia namely Penang, Perak and Selangor Turf Clubs inaugurated the Da Ma Cai Malaysia 3-Year-Old Championship in August 2007 and the event has stirred up a lot of interest in the Malaysian horse racing circuit.
