Ladies Day at the Selangor Turf Club
The first weekend of the Selangor Turf Club (SLTC) race meeting saw KL home based 3-Year-Old horses battling out in Heat 2 and Heat 3 of the Da Ma Cai Malaysia 3-Year-Old Championship to secure a slot in the inaugural Championship final to be held at Selangor Turf Club on November 4, 2007.
Five horses from each of the Malaysian turf clubs will qualify for the final and the last weekend heats saw Mighty Triple Ace, BrightandBeautiful, Jeram Fatt Choy, Jun Jin, and Ishbiliya representing the Kuala Lumpur contingent.
Out of fifteen qualifiers, eleven horses have been confirmed for the final. This includes Jazzmint Delight, Hot Ego, Speedy Wind, Easy Speed and Happy Victory from Perak and Yharo from Penang. Meanwhile, Kaka from Perak Turf Club and Quick Sand from Selangor Turf Club are selected as Emergency Acceptors. The remaining four places to the final and one Emergency Acceptor will be determined after the running of Heat 2 and Heat 3 at Penang Turf Club on October 15 and 21 respectively.
As part of its racing tradition, the Selangor Turf Club will be organizing the annual Ladies Day on Sunday, October 7, 2007. Besides giving free entrance for all ladies, the Selangor Turf Club has also lined-up some treats for its female racing fans like attractive door gifts for the first 500 ladies and skincare and beauty workshops.
At the same time, approximately 300 invited ladies made up of who’s who in society will be attending races in their most fashionable and elegant outfits, and their matching collection of hats. The theme for this event is Fashions on the Field and it will showcase some interesting events made up of fashion shows by Valentino and Tango, Best Dressed Lists, Raffles Draw and gastronomic delights. Five most fashionable ladies will be selected for the Best Dressed Lists and they will walk away with attractive prizes sponsored by Origins, Marie France and Live Life.
In addition, the Selangor Turf Club will be conducting a Raffles Draw in aid of Riding for the Disabled Association, Malaysia.
On the racing front, the second weekend of the KL Sept/Oct race meeting will be featuring two sponsored races by Astro and Mitavite Asia Sdn Bhd. The Astro Wah Lai Toi Vase which made its debut in 2003 is open for Class 1 horses with RM250,000 prize money and the Mitavite Stayers Trophy run over a distance of 1800 metres with RM63,000 stakes is open for Class 3 horses.
The fourth day of this race meeting will also see the inaugural running of the RM100,000 Macau Jockey Club Goodwill Cup, which is reserved for fillies and mares to be run over a distance of 1,400 metres. The Macau Jockey Club Goodwill Cup is part of the exchange race programme between the Selangor Turf Club and the Macau Jockey Club. A reciprocal race called Selangor Turf Club Goodwill Cup made its debut run early this year in Macau.
On Sunday, October 7, 2007, the Club will also be running the Dato’ Sir Clough Thuraisingham Memorial Trophy race. The race is held in honour of the first local Chairman of the Selangor Turf Club, the late Dato’ Sir Clough Thuraisingham who was the Chairman from 1954 till 1972.
