The horse racing fraternity in Malaysia, comprising the Turf Clubs, Ordinary Members, Horse Owners, Trainers, Jockeys, MRA Officials, Business Associates and Staff are invited to join in a combined effort to demonstrate their care and concern for those affected by the great earthquake disaster in Sichuan, China.

In an effort to help the people affected by the earthquake in Sichuan, the Selangor Turf Club is initiating a fund raising drive amongst the horse racing fraternity to help the unfortunate victims in this hour of need.

As part of this fund raising campaign, the Selangor Turf Club is pledging to meet every donation collected on a Ringgit for Ringgit basis. The Selangor Turf Club will meet this collection up to a maximum donation of RM500,000. 

Racing fans visiting the Selangor Turf Club and the Off-Course Betting Centre in Kepong can place their contribution into the collection boxes on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8, 2008. Donations by cheque can be made payable in the name of Selangor Turf Club.

Datuk Richard Cham, Deputy Chairman of Selangor Turf Club said, “The recent earthquake in Sichuan, China had a devastating effect, which claimed thousands of lives and left many thousands more homeless and shattered.  Millions of people not only lost all their possessions but also those who were closest and dearest to them. We are positive that by combining the efforts from the racing fraternity, we can raise a significant amount of money for the Sichuan Earthquake Donation Drive.”

The Selangor Turf Club will also run two special races named “Malaysia Horse Racing Sichuan Earthquake Relief Charity Trophy” on June 7, 2008 and “Malaysia Horse Racing Sichuan Earthquake Relief Charity Cup” on June 8, 2008 to mark the donation drive.

The donations collected will be officially presented to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China at the Selangor Turf Club Annual Dinner on Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
