RACE 1 (R1169) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE B)

The start of this race was delayed as the breast-plate of GANNA (J De Souza) broke behind the barriers and had to be replaced.

On jumping, HOFBURG PALACE (Lou Ho) shifted inwards and made contact with SPARKLER (App CK Khaw) .

Shortly after the start, CONQUISTADOR (App AK Lim) was inconvenienced when VON SNITZEL (App KC Wong) shifted inwards and HOFBURG PALACE shifted outwards, and had to be checked by its rider.

HAHA BABE (L Sofhan) was caught racing 3-wide throughout the event. SPARKLER which was the leader of the event, surrendered the leading position to HOFBURG PALACE approaching the 1000M and obtained a trail.

Upon returning to scales, App CK Khaw, the rider of SPARKLER, reported that his saddle slipped backwards in the straight.

Following the running of this event, the Stewards inspected the breast-plate of GANNA and found it to be in an unsatisfactory condition, and issued a warning to Trainer D Murphy that a repetition may lead to a penalty being imposed.

RACE 2 (R1170) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE B)

The start of this race was delayed for several minutes when SEA MASTER (App CK Khaw) had cast both fore plates en route to the barriers and had to be replated.

SEA MASTER was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field. Upon jumping, SEA MASTER shifted outwards and TAVAN BOGD (App AK Lim) shifted inwards and as a result, bumped heavily resulting in App CK Khaw losing his off side stirrup iron which placed him at a disadvantage despite several efforts to regain it.

CERIUM (App KC Tham) which showed no early pace despite the efforts of its rider, trailed the field throughout, underwent a post-race examination which revealed no significant finding.

Trainer E Seet, when questioned, was advised that a warning was placed on the gelding’s racing manners given its 16 ¼ lengths beaten margin.

Approaching the 1000M, TAVAN BOGD (App AK Lim) shifted in abruptly resulting in BRUNEI TALE (S Ruzaini) and KINGSHIP ADMIRAL (J Low) having to be eased off that gelding’s heels.

App AK Lim was shown the official patrol film of the incident and reminded of his obligation to exercise greater care when shifting ground under similar circumstances in future or action may be taken against his license.

Approaching the 200M, NUWA (J De Souza) was disappointed for a run between ASTROHEAT (R Woodworth) which shifted inwards under pressure and SEA MASTER which rolled out marginally which resulted in Jockey J De Souza having to ease his mount and shifted out to gain clear running.

BRUNEI TALE (S Ruzaini) had a tendency to lay out under pressure over the concluding stages resulting in the rider having to swap his whip to the right hand.

The State of Track was upgraded to “Good” after the running of this race.

RACE 4 (R1172) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE B)

Trainer R Lines was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to confirm with Jockey Lou Ho prior to declaring him on LONESOME ME in this race.

GERMANIC (HS Gill) jumped awkwardly. LONESOME ME (App CK Khaw) knuckled upon jumping resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced and as a result, RUSSELL THE CROWE (J Low) was momentarily inconvenienced. RUSSELL THE CROWE was caught racing wide throughout the event.

JERAM VILLAGE (R Woodworth) finished wider on the track. Entering the front straight on the run to the finish, GERMANIC had a tendency to lay out resulting in Jockey HS Gill having to attempt to stop and straighten.

The Stewards, after taking evidence from Jockey HS Gill (GERMANIC), App WK Lee (SATURDAY’S DELIGHT) and Jockey S Sandana (SPIN FIRE) adjourned an inquiry into the interference suffered at the 1000M to a date to be fixed as Assistant Trainer Ian Thwaites had left the course.

The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the disappointing performance of the favourite, JERAM VILLAGE (R Woodworth) to a date to be fixed.

The Stewards questioned App S Zulfikri, in the presence of his Master, Trainer PS Kumaran into the tactics that were adopted on BUKIT SUBANG in today’s event.

After viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards acting on their own observations, App S Zulfikri, the rider of BUKIT SUBANG, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

The particulars of the charge were that he failed to attempt to carry out his instructions which were to be mid-to-back and as a result, he urged his horse forward and found himself leading the event which was contrary to the instructions and the previous racing pattern of the horse.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Zulfikri’s previous riding record and his submissions on penalty.

Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of App S Zulfikri’s suspension.

He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 25 September 2016 and to expire on 24 October 2016, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (3:45pm).

The Stewards questioned App CK Khaw, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, into the tactics that were adopted in particular from the 600M and the concern from the Stewards that he failed to show any vigour from the 600M until the 300M when in the opinion of the Stewards it is a crucial part of any event.

App CK Khaw explained that he could not offer any real explanation as in his opinion, he believed he rode a good race.

Trainer R Lines agreed with the Stewards’ observations in that App CK Khaw did fail to show any vigour during this part of the event and in his opinion, App CK Khaw should have shown more vigour to gain the best possible chance of gaining the best possible placing.

The Stewards, in not taking serious action against App CK Khaw’s license, took into consideration his limited riding experience.

Trainer R Lines stated that he would be further tutoring App CK Khaw in an endeavour to improve his thinking throughout a race.

The Stewards further advised Trainer R Lines that App CK Khaw is only allowed to ride for him at this stage and would be given further tutoring at the SLTC Apprentice Academy.

The Stewards concluded an inquiry and took evidence from App WK Lee, the rider of SATURDAY’S DELIGHT, in the presence of Assistant Trainer Ian Thwaites.

App WK Lee, the rider of SATURDAY’S DELIGHT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding SATURDAY’S DELIGHT in this race, approaching the 1000M, he shifted in when insufficiently clear of GERMANIC (HS Gill) resulting in that horse having to be checked.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App WK Lee’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous record and his submissions on penalty.

Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of App WK Lee’s suspension.

He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 25 September 2016 and to expire on 2 October 2016, both dates inclusive.

He was advised of his Right of Appeal (1:15pm).

RACE 7 (R1175) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B)

Prior to the start of this event, Trainer A Scott, in the presence of Jockey S Sandana, the rider of REYSHA, approached the Stewards in relation to the tactics that will be adopted on REYSHA.

Trainer A Scott explained to the Jockey, in the presence of the Stewards, that she instructed the Jockey to get a good jump, try to get a favourable handy trailing position and do his best in the straight.

The Stewards noted their comments. REYSHA stumbled upon jumping. YOU NEVER KNOW (App SU Lim) jumped with its head in the air.

Upon jumping, PERFECT FIXER (App CK Khaw) shifted in and inconvenienced LOYALTY GAYA (Lou Ho). CASPER (App AM Aizat) had a tendency to over-race in the early stages and got its head up.

Approaching the 1000M, PERFECT FIXER (App CK Khaw) shifted in and bumped YOU NEVER KNOW (App SU Lim). PERFECT FIXER and LUCOSTAR (J Shankar) were caught racing wide throughout the event.

Over the final 250M, REYSHA had a tendency to lay in under pressure when being struck with the whip.

Approaching the 150M mark, GOLD COAST CAPTAIN (App KC Tham) had a tendency to lay inwards resulting in the rider having to stop and straighten to avoid the heels of CASPER.

LUCOSTAR which was beaten 23 1/2 lengths and LOYALTY GAYA which was distanced, will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performance.

RACE 8 (R1176) CLASS 5 – 1600M (LONG COURSE B)

Prior to the start of this event, Trainer A Scott, in the presence of App KC Tham, the rider of BEAUTY ADMIRE, approached the Stewards in relation to the tactics that will be adopted on BEAUTY ADMIRE.

Trainer A Scott explained to the rider, in the presence of the Stewards, that she instructed the rider to get a good jump, try to get a favourable handy trailing position and do his best in the straight.

The Stewards noted their comments. Shortly after the start, D’GREAT HAWK (App R Fakruddin) had to be severely checked and lost ground when HAPPY SURPRISER (J Low) shifted inwards and BLUE DELAGO (App AK Lim) jumped outwards.

GOOD CODE (HS Gill) was caught racing 3-wide in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 400M, D’GREAT HAWK shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider and as a result, KING FAALCON (J Shankar) had to be checked off that gelding’s heels.

Approaching the 300M, SUPER EIGHTYTHREE (A Nawawi) shifted in and inconvenienced GOOD CODE (HS Gill) and then further shifted in, inconveniencing PHILIP (App KC Wong).

Upon returning to scales, Jockey A Nawawi reported that his saddle slipped backwards in the straight and this was confirmed by the Stewards.

An objection was lodged by App S Zulfikri, the rider of KIM WARRIOR, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer R Lines, placed second against BEAUTY ADMIRE (App KC Tham) being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference from the 300M mark.

After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race.

The objection was overruled and the result stood.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey A Nawawi, the rider of SUPER EIGHTYTHREE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding SUPER EIGHTYTHREE in this race, approaching the 300M, he shifted in when insufficiently clear of GOOD CODE (HS Gill) resulting in that horse having to be checked and approaching the 150M, he further shifted in, inconveniencing PHILIP (App KC Wong).

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey A Nawawi’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous record and his submissions on penalty.

Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey A Nawawi’s suspension.

He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 25 September 2016 and to expire on 2 October 2016, both dates inclusive.

He was advised of his Right of Appeal (1:25pm).
