RACE 1 (R807) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

The Stewards questioned Trainer R Lines and App S Zulfikri into the riding tactics that will be adopted on CHAMPAGNE ROSE in today’s event.

Trainer R Lines explained that the mare had worked extremely well and was in great order, and he expected a forward showing in this event. App S Zulfikri was reminded of his obligations that he should ensure he gives every one of his mounts the best possible chance to gain the best possible placing.

A public announcement was made to that effect. DYNAMIC TRIO (J Shankar) jumped awkwardly. KINGSHIP ADMIRAL (J Low) and AIR STRIKE (App KC Wong) bumped upon jumping. Shortly after the start, DARK EXPRESS (C Goon) had a tendency to lay inwards and bumped AIR STRIKE on several occasions. DYNAMIC TRIO had a tendency to race fiercely and approaching the 1000M, had to be eased off the runners in front.

Approaching the 1000M, CHAMPAGNE ROSE (App S Zulfikri) shifted wider on the track and raced wide for the remainder part of the event. EASY AHEAD (App T Krisna) had a tendency to race fiercely and raced 3 wide over the final 400M and had a tendency to lay in despite the efforts of its rider.

Approaching the 250M mark in this event, FUMIO (App M Hanif) had to shift out over the heels of DYNAMIC TRIO in order to gain clear running. RAINBOW EASY (LL Tai) rolled out under pressure over the concluding stages.

The Stewards took evidence from App S Zulfikri, the rider of CHAMPAGNE ROSE, in the presence of his Master, Trainer PS Kumaran, Trainer R Lines, the Trainer of CHAMPAGNE ROSE. After viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards acting on their own observations, App S Zulfikri pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding CHAMPAGNE ROSE, approaching the 1100M in this event, he shifted outwards to a wide position and raced wide thereafter which in the opinion of the Stewards, it was unnecessary to do so to gain the best possible placing in the event. In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Zulfikri’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of App S Zulfikri’s suspension.

He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months with effect from 3 July 2016 and to expire on 2 September 2016, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (3:20pm).

RACE 2 (R808) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

The start of this race was delayed when GOOD VIBRATIONS (J De Souza) proved difficult to be loaded into the barrier.

The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again. ENCOSTA ZONE (F Yap) stood flat-footed and missed the start by a considerable margin.

The Stewards questioned Dr Silamban Subbarao, the Chief Starter, regarding ENCOSTA ZONE being slow at the start when a special request for the horse has been made. Dr Silamban explained that the Barrier Handlers were under pressure with GOOD VIBRATIONS and he failed to adhere to the request.

After considering all the evidence, the Stewards informed Trainer T Jackman that ENCOSTA ZONE will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again.

The Starter was reminded of his obligations. MARINI WALTZ (App AM Aizat) jumped awkwardly resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced. GOOD VIBRATIONS trailed the field throughout the event.

Over the final stages of the event, JP REGIS (J Shankar) shifted out under pressure resulting in MARINI WALTZ being inconvenienced.

The Stewards questioned Jockey J Shankar into the riding tactics that were adopted on JP REGIS in particular why he failed to ride to instructions which were to gain a midfield position and why he sat outside the leader, GOOD VIBRATIONS during a quick tempo of this event when in the opinion of the Stewards, by doing so, it may have been detrimental to his horse’s chances.

Jockey J Shankar explained that shortly after the start, he attempted to restrain the gelding in an endeavour to do this, however, the gelding had a tendency to over-race and when being restrained, got its head up on numerous occasions and raced fiercely.

After viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards acting on their own observations, confirmed Jockey J Shankar’s explanation, noted his comments for future reference and took no action.

RACE 5 (R811) CLASS 4 – 1500M (LONG COURSE A)

UNME (App M Hanif) was very restless in the barrier and reared upon jumping. SEGAR THE BEST (App KC Tham), IMMORTALITY (App A Thamil) and REAL MEAN (J De Souza) all bumped shortly after the start. KEEPER’S PRINCESS (J Shankar) and Q NINE MASTER (H Bukhari) brushed for a short distance after the start.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report SLTC, Saturday, 25 June 2016 5 SEA WORLD (J Low) made the turn at the 500M wide and had a tendency to lay in over the final 250M.

Approaching the 200M, SEGAR THE BEST had a tendency to lay in and as a result, KEEPER’S PRINCESS shifted out over that gelding’s heels to gain clear running.

Upon returning to scales, App A Thamil, the rider IMMORTALITY, reported that his saddle slipped backwards slightly during running. An inquiry into the tactics that were adopted on IMMORTALITY (App A Thamil) was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

The Stewards, on 26 June 2016 at the Selangor Turf Club, took evidence from App A Thamil, the rider IMMORTALITY, in the presence of his Master, Trainer D Murphy, in relation to the riding tactics that were adopted on the mare.

At the conclusion of the inquiry, App A Thamil pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding IMMORTALITY at about the 1000M mark in this race, he shifted in when insufficiently clear of SWISS BANK (Y Aify) which had to be severely checked off its heels and as a consequence, SEA WORLD (J Low), UNME (App M Hanif) and Q NINE MASTER (H Bukhari) all suffered varying degrees of interference.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App A Thamil’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty.

Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of App A Thamil’s suspension.

He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days with effect from 3 July 2016 and to expire on 17 July 2016, both dates inclusive.

He was advised of his Right of Appeal (1:10pm).

GHOST WITH LUCK (H Bukhari) jumped awkwardly and shortly after the start, was inconvenienced when COLOURFUL ROMANCE (J Low) jumped outwards and SAGAR’S EXPRESS (App KC Tham) jumped inwards and lost ground. Approaching the 1200M, CONTENTED (App AM Aizat) rolled outwards and GOOD GOOD LUCK (C Goon) laid inwards resulting in GHOST WITH LUCK, MASCOT DRAGON (App SU Lim) and KIM SALUTE (App M Hanif) all being tightened.

Over the final 300M, QI POWER (App A Thamil) had a tendency to lay in under pressure resulting in the rider having to stop and straighten on several occasions.

Approaching the 250M, CONTENTED had a tendency to lay outwards under pressure.

The Stewards opened an inquiry into the tactics that were adopted on SAGAR’S EXPRESS (App KC Tham) in particular from the 500M in this event.

After taking evidence from App KC Tham, in the presence of Trainer BT Lim, and viewing the official patrol films, the Stewards acting on their own observations, adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.

The Stewards, on 26 June 2016 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the tactics that were adopted on SAGAR’S EXPRESS.

The Stewards were concerned why he failed to take a run at approximately the 400M to the outside of VISTA (App T Krisna) and to the inside of QI POWER (App A Thamil).

Further evidence was taken from App KC Tham, in the presence Trainer BT Lim.

App KC Tham explained that he attempted to take this run, however, VISTA had a tendency to lay outwards which resulted in him becoming disappointed for this run and he elected to shift inwards in an endeavour to gain clear running and approaching the 200M, he also attempted a run to the outside of KIM SALUTE (App M Hanif) and to the inside of CONTENTED (App AM Aizat), however, was again disappointed for a run when KIM SALUTE shifted out under pressure.

He further explained that in an endeavour to gain clear running, he had no choice but to shift inwards to the inside of KIM SALUTE to gain clear running and the gelding ran home strongly.

Trainer BT Lim concurred with App KC Tham’s explanation and further added that this gelding has shown in its previous runs that it was reluctant to take runs when crowded by other runners as it has shown in its previous race starts.

The Stewards, after viewing SAGAR’S EXPRESS’ previous runs, were satisfied with their explanations, however, gave App KC Tham the “benefit of the doubt”.

The Stewards also reminded App KC Tham in the strongest terms that in future he should ensure that he rides all his horses in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

Their comments were noted for future reference.
