RACE 1 (R615) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B)

FLY NOW (App AM Aizat) jumped with its head in the air and was slow to begin.

SAGAR’S EXPRESS (App A Farezul) had a tendency to race fiercely in the early stages and got its head up.

RISE UP THE RANK (J De Souza) and SAGAR’S EXPRESS were both caught racing 3- wide throughout the event. Approaching the 500M, ENCOSTA ZONE (S Sandana) raced keenly and as a result, clipped the heels of TRUE HERITAGE (App SU Lim).

SAGAR’S EXPRESS had a tendency to lay in at the 200M resulting in the rider having to stop and straighten.

The Stewards questioned Trainer R Lines and Jockey J De Souza into the disappointing performance of RISE UP THE RANK in today’s event. Jockey J De Souza stated that from a wide barrier, he found himself racing 3-wide throughout the event and placed the gelding under pressure at the 500M, however, the gelding failed to respond in particular over the 200M and finished at the rear of the field.

He further stated that he could not offer any further explanation.

Trainer R Lines explained that he was also at a lost to explain the disappointing performance as RISE UP THE RANK had worked extremely well throughout the week, however, stated that carrying top weight may have contributed to the disappointing performance.

The Stewards noted their explanations for future reference.

A post-race veterinary examination of RISE UP THE RANK revealed that it returned with a cut on the left commisure of the mouth.

The gelding which was beaten 22 ½ lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance and was impounded.

The Stewards questioned Trainer W Lim into the improved performance of RAINBOW FUTURE (M Ganeesh) in today’s event. Trainer W Lim reported that in his opinion, a change to a new rider, coupled with the fact that the gelding had worked extremely well in its trackwork throughout the week, may have contributed to the improved performance.

Trainer W Lim further stated that there was some stable support and the gelding was down 17kgs in its body weight as he has stepped up its work. He further stated that he was surprised with the improved performance of RAINBOW FUTURE and could not offer any further explanation.

The Stewards noted his comments for future reference and his attention was drawn to the Rules regarding in and out running. The Stewards questioned App AM Aizat, the rider of FLY NOW, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Jensen, into his vigour in the home straight in today’s event.

App AM Aizat stated that the gelding is a one-paced horse and he believed that he could not show more vigour than what he did on this occasion as the gelding was changing strides numerous times in the home straight.

Trainer R Jensen reported that FLY NOW has problems with its joints and is having its first start for the stable, and was pleased with the run given its previous performances

. The Stewards, after viewing the official patrol films, noted their comments for future reference, however, warned App AM Aizat that in future he would be expected to ride all his horses out in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the tactics that were adopted on TALISMAN (R Olechea) in particular in the early part of the home straight at a date to be fixed.

The Stewards, on 25 June 2016 at the Selangor Turf Club, continued an inquiry into the riding tactics that were adopted on TALISMAN (R Olechea).

The Stewards took evidence from Jockey R Olechea and Trainer L Moy.

After viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards acting on their own observations, Jockey R Olechea pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

The particulars of the charge were that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in relation to his whip use from the 400M until the 200M in this event.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey R Olechea’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty.

Over the concluding stages, SEA HORIZON (J Low) shifted out under the whip.

The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the tactics that were adopted on TEEN ANGEL (App S Zulfikri) at a date to be fixed to allow his Master, Trainer PS Kumaran to attend the inquiry.

The Stewards, on 15 May 2016 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the tactics that were adopted on TEEN ANGEL (App S Zulfikri). Evidence was taken from App S Zulfikri, in the presence of his Master, Trainer PS Kumaran, and Trainer R Lines, the Trainer of TEEN ANGEL.

After viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards acting on their own observations, App S Zulfikri pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

The particulars of the charge were that he failed to show sufficient vigour in the early stages of the event in order to carry out his riding instructions as per the Trainer’s Instruction Form.

The Stewards believed that he took hold of his horse at this point and that he should have shown more vigour to attempt to gain a handy forward position.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Zulfikri’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty.

He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 16 May 2016 and to expire on 15 June 2016, both dates inclusive.

RACE 8 (R622) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE B)

BUZZ MAN (J Low) was inconvenienced at the start when EASY AHEAD (App WK Lee) jumped inwards and LIGHTNING QUEEN (App SU Lim) jumped outwards.

EASY AHEAD and BUZZ MAN were both caught racing wide throughout the event.

Approaching the 250M, BUZZ MAN shifted in under pressure resulting in DRAGON NINE (App AM Aizat) having to ease off that gelding’s heels and shifted out to gain clear running. EASY AHEAD had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

An objection was lodged by Jockey Y Aify, the rider of SILENT DREAMS, placed third against GOOD VIBRATIONS (J De Souza), placed second, on the grounds of alleged interference at about the 250M mark.

After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race.

The objection was overruled and the result stood.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of GOOD VIBRATIONS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at approximately the 250M mark, he allowed his horse to shift inwards and when insufficiently clear of DYNAMIC TRIO (R Olechea) and SILENT DREAMS (Y Aify), and as a result Jockey Y Aify had to severely check his mount, losing his rightful position.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J De Souza’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty.

Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey J De Souza’s suspension.

He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 22 May 2016 and to expire on 29 May 2016, both dates inclusive.

He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:15pm).

The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons why Jockey R Olechea, the rider of DYNAMIC TRIO, struck his horse forward of the shoulder at a date to be fixed as he had left the course.
