RACE 1 (R343) CLASS 5 – 1300M (SHORT COURSE B)

The saddle on SAGAR’S EXPRESS (App A Farezul) was readjusted behind the barriers.

ELEVEN UP (App A Thamil) was slow to begin. VISTA (App S Zulfikri) jumped awkwardly. STEALTH (App WK Lee) and SAGAR’S EXPRESS bumped on jumping. Upon jumping, BULL AND BEAR (App KC Wong) shifted inwards and bumped GOLD STAR PRINCESS (F Yap).

SAGAR’S EXPRESS had a tendency to race fiercely in the early stages. Approaching the 1000M, VISTA was disappointed for a run to the inside of ELEVEN UP when ELEVEN UP rolled in marginally and lost ground.

Leaving the 1000M, VISTA shifted to a 3-wide position and raced wide for the remainder part of the event.

The Stewards questioned Trainer BT Lim and App A Farezul as to the racing tactics that were adopted on SAGAR’S EXPRESS in particular in the main straight in today’s event.

App A Farezul explained that he accidentally dropped his off side rein and as a result, the horse shifted inwards which resulted in him becoming unbalanced and failing to regain his rein.

He further explained that SAGAR’S EXPRESS had a tendency to lay in for the remainder part of the home straight.

Trainer BT Lim stated that SAGAR’S EXPRESS is a difficult horse to ride, however, believed the 4-kg claim may have helped the gelding and was running out of options to improve the gelding.

The Stewards, after viewing the official patrol film and acting on their own observations, informed Trainer BT Lim that he should ensure that he places an experienced jockey on this horse in future given its previous racing habits.

The Stewards noted  their comments for future reference.

The Stewards ordered App A Farezul that he will be stood down from race riding until he can show an improvement in his riding skills.

The Stewards questioned Trainer W Lim and App AK Lim into the performance of RAINBOW FUTURE in today’s event.

Trainer W Lim explained that he was happy with the ride and he did support the gelding in the betting and believed that in future, the gelding may be suited in a longer distance than a 1300M race.

App AK Lim stated that he agreed with his Trainer’s observations.

The Stewards noted their comments for future reference.

RACE 2 (R344) CLASS 5 – 1300M (SHORT COURSE B)

Prior to the running of this event, the connections of LIGHTNING QUEEN (App SU Lim) approached the Stewards in relation to the riding tactics and believed it would be the best option for the mare to jump, and try and gain a midfield trail position if possible as the mare had previously had a tendency to over-race and did not finish off in its races.

The Stewards concurred with Trainer W Lim’s request and a public announcement was made to this effect.

The start of this race was delayed for several minutes when RED EASTERN (HS Gill) proved difficult to be loaded into the barriers.

Trainer BT Lim was advised that the Stewards placed a warning on this horse and he must improve its barrier manners, or action may be taken against the gelding.

On jumping, LIM’S MIRAGE (App A Zaimuddin) shifted out abruptly resulting in the rider having to take hold and straighten the gelding.

YES CLUB (App M Sathiaa) jumped awkwardly. JP SUMMER (App P Deneskumar) and YES CLUB were both caught racing wide throughout the event.

Approaching the 300M, AIR STRIKE (App KC Wong) was held up and disappointed for a run on the inside of RED EASTERN when RED EASTERN rolled in.

App AK Lim, the rider of TAVAN BOGD, reported that his horse showed no interest in the race.

RACE 3 (R345) CLASS 5 – 1300M (SHORT COURSE B)

The start of this race was delayed when STAR BEAUTY (App AM Aizat) arrived late at the barriers.

It was established that there was confusion in relation to the Starter Hack accompanying the horse to the barriers and as a result, the Starter Hack had to return to the paddock to assist.

Upon jumping, KIM SALUTE (CK Tan) shifted inwards, taking GOLD BREW (App WK Lee) in onto WHAT’S DAT (R Burnett). STAR BEAUTY was also inconvenienced in this incident.

ENGLISH DREAM (M Wepner) had a tendency to over-race in the early and middle stages, and laid out under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.

GOLD BREW which was beaten 26 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

Upon returning to scales, Jockey HS Gill, the rider of DARMORE, reported that the gelding was coughing profusely.

A post-race veterinary examination of DARMORE revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey CK Tan, the rider of KIM SALUTE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that from a wide barrier, approaching the 1100M, KIM SALUTE (CK Tan) shifted inwards when insufficiently clear resulting in WHAT’S DAT being taken in onto TURBO (R Woodworth) which had to be severely checked by its rider.

Approaching the 1000M mark, KIM SALUTE continued to shift in when ridden forward by tis rider, further resulting in WHAT’S DAT, CHAMPAGNE ROSE (App S Zulfikri), BUNGAE (App A Thamil) and ENGLISH DREAM (M Wepner) all being inconvenienced. DARMORE, STAR BEAUTY and GOLD BREW which were following, were all inconvenienced to varying degrees in this incident. .

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey CK Tan’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey CK Tan’s suspension.

He was suspended from riding in races for a period of four (4) Malaysian race days with effect from 21 March 2016 and to expire on 9 April 2016, both dates inclusive.

He was advised of his Right of Appeal (2:45pm).

RACE 8 (R350) CLASS 5 – 1600M (LONG COURSE B)

This race was rescheduled to start at 5:20pm.

Approaching the 300M, KING FAALCON (R Olechea) shifted inwards and bumped TURNED OUT (HS Gill).

Upon returning to scales, App AM Aizat, the rider of KIM ALBERT, and App P Deneskumar, the rider of FLYING AHEAD, both reported that their horses had tendencies to over-race throughout the event.

The Stewards questioned Trainer BT Lim and Jockey HS Gill in relation to the disappointing performance of TURNED OUT in today’s event.

Trainer BT Lim stated that he could not offer any explanation on the disappointing performance and advised the Stewards that he had been disappointed in its previous races as he did support the gelding in the betting and expected a good showing.

Trainer BT Lim further explained that he may give the gelding a 6-week spell to try and improve its performances.

Jockey HS Gill stated that it is the gelding’s first race over the 1600M and he also could not offer any real explanation.

The Stewards noted their comments for future reference, however were not fully satisfied with their explanations and adjourned a further inquiry into this matter.

A post-race veterinary examination of TURNED OUT revealed no significant finding.

The gelding was impounded.

This race was rescheduled to start at 5:45pm.

Upon jumping, MISTER JAGGER (App M Sathiaa) shifted inwards and inconvenienced SUPER EIGHTYTHREE (App P Deneskumar).

Shortly after entering the front straight, BLACK TRISTAR (H Bukhari) was disappointed for a run when MAN OF THE WORLD (App AM Aizat) shifted outwards and MISTER JAGGER rolled in marginally and as a result, had to be checked and lost ground.

Approaching the 350M, AMONGST THE STARS (R Olechea) was held up behind the runners in front and shifted inward to gain clear running and again was disappointed for a run when PHILIP (J De Souza) shifted inwards abruptly approaching the 200M, inconveniencing GENERAL G (App SU Lim).

Upon returning to scales, Jockey M Wepner, the rider of SILENT DREAMS, reported that his saddle slipped backwards and sideways from the home turn.

This was confirmed by the Stewards.
