Jockey Thai Yang & Shanker - Suspended

RACE 7 (R743) CLASS 5 – 1400M

 

Passing the 300M, PRETTY ABLE (S Ruzaini) had to check when FLYING HORSE (S Thai Yang) shifted inwards over the heels of CABRERA (App AK Lim) to obtain clear running.  

At a subsequent Inquiry, Jockey S Thai Yang, the rider of  FLYING HORSE pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) for careless riding in that passing the 300M, he shifted inwards when not clear of PRETTY ABLE resulting in PRETTY ABLE having to check and lost ground.  Jockey S Thai Yang was suspended from riding in races for two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from Monday, 12th June 2017 and to expire on Saturday, 24th June 2017, both days inclusive.  He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6.25 pm).


RACE 6 (R714)  CLASS 4 – 1100M, PENANG JUNE MEETING 2017, 

1ST DAY, SATURDAY, 3RD JUNE 2017

 

The Stewards today (10th June 2017) concluded an Inquiry into handling of  SMOOTHLY in the above race.  

After taking evidence from Jockey J Shankar and Trainer S Cook, the rider and trainer of  SMOOTHLY  respectively, Jockey J Shankar was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.  The particulars of the charge were that he failed to show sufficient vigour and determination when riding SMOOTHLY from the top of the straight to the finish of the race.

 

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the facts of this case and  Jockey J Shankar’s previous riding record.  Jockey J Shankar was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months with effect from Monday, 12th June 2017 and to expire on Monday, 11th September 2017, both days inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (1.30pm).
