Race Caller Selections Kuala Lumpur August 4
02 Aug 2012
Race 1. 11-9-8-6
Piccolo Man (11) won over the 1400m in KL three back from a wide gate, before not handling the track at Ipoh and last start was close-up behind Payback Time. A previous winner over this circuit and expect a forward showing back on home track for leading rider.
Flying Singa (9) was very well backed two runs ago in KL over this distance when finishing close-up before failing over the mile last start. Change of trainer since and has been working well. Ideally drawn in barrier 2 for Chavez. Expect him to go very close.
Seal Holder (8) a very fast horse who should lead and give a sight. Went very fast in a trial Tuesday morning in KL.
Befledged (6) raced handy and stuck on well at Ipoh over the mile last start. Gets in very light after 4kg claim for App WT Chung. Trial winner here July 10.
Race 2. 1-3-4-9
Happy Amigo (1) a former Australian horse who arrived unplaced from three starts, however trialled superb on July 10 before being scratched at the barriers at Ipoh in a Class 4 after being very heavily backed. Back to maiden company here and expected to just win.
Conquistador (3) arguably the best maiden horse in Asia. Placed five from seven. First-up last week at Ipoh showed speed before weakening in the straight, however was probably on the worst going, so the run was better than it may appear. Fitter now. Big danger.
Optimus Prime (4) ex Singaporean who has trialled well in KL June 26.
Fill My Pocket (9) had trialled good prior to running well at Penang. Can show-up on home track.
Race 3. 5-1-2-10
City Lights (5) super consistent and should appreciate the claim for Ganeesh. Can race up on the pace and take catching.
Reel Schmick (1) drops back to Class 5 and finally finds himself in a winnable race but has drawn the outside gate. Easily the best horse in the race and can overcome the draw.
Saya Jantan (2) will appreciate the drop back to Class 5 company. Can also race up on the pace and give a good sight.
Hollywood Boy (10) a Malaysian bred who has placed three of his four runs. Usually gets back and runs on so look for him late.
Race 4. 14 -1-11
Only Thumbs Up (14) gains a run after scratchings and looks very hard to beat on his 3rd placing behing Ryan James two starts back in KL. Forget last start at Penang, missed the start and was never in it. Go on previous start. Saimee now booked to ride. Go close.
Dontletmedown (1) form is a little bit hard to follow on paper but trialled like Phar Lap in KL last week winning by a big space. Going on that, must rate highly.
Super Cop (11) hit the line well in a strong Class 4 last start. Should appreciate the extra distance and 4kg claim for app R Rueven gets in with only 47kg.
Race 5. 1-2-5-10
Alacarte (1) started one of the favourites for the Group 1 Piala Emas and ran well before running home for strong 3rd over unsuitable 1400m at Penang last start. Back up to 1800m and on home track looks the winner.
Pina Colarda (2) very impressive winner over the mile during the KL carnival and last start flew home over unsuitable distance at Penang 1400m. Will also appreciate being back at KL and over the 1800m.
Golden Jaguar (5) got within 1 ½ lengths of Alacarte three runs ago, since won over the mile at Penang and last start finished along side Pina Colarda over 1400m. Very genuine horse. Cannot leave out.
Good Friend (10) should relish getting back up to a more suitable trip on home track. Should race up on the pace and give a good sight at big odds.
Race 6. 1-8-3-7
Volpista (1) was impressive winning in KL over the carnival before going down narrowly at Penang last start. Back on home track in what appears an easier race. The one to beat.
Dontbelate (8) prepared to overlook last start failure, previous two runs suggested he was looking for this distance and should be hitting the line hard.
Prinzio (3) model of consistency who shouldn’t be far away.
Conosur (7) out and out stayer who gets in very light after claim for App R Rueven with only 46.5kg.
Race 7. 4-2-1-5
City Star (4) good winner here on June 9 before rider when too early and he was left exposed when 2nd here 1800m June 16. Stable jockey gets back on and should take beating.
Soviet Sniper (2) cracked it for an overdue win at Ipoh last start and could go on with it back on home track. Wepner sticks a plus.
Flaming Bolt (1) super consistent and unlucky not to have won his last two at Penang. Should be thereabouts again.
Mayo’s Dancer (5) has really found form recently and with Chavez on should be in the finish again. Proven this trip.
Race 8. 2-5-9-12
El Mariachi (2) a bit hard to catch but recent track work has been very good, drawn well in 2 and after claim for SS Vanan looks as good a chance as any in a wide open race.
Crown Of Luck (5) doesn’t win often but should be able to race up on the pace in a race that appears to lack speed and can give a sight.
Showoftheday (9) only one win but fairly consistent in this sort of a race and has an each way chance.
Red Cliff (12) had a race won here two starts back before getting run down late and wasn’t far away last start. Gets in light after claim and drawn ok in 6.
Race 9. 3-2-9-6
Landing North (3) came from a long way back first-up in Class 3 company to finish 5th to the smart Ryan James on June 16, before being very heavily backed and was scratched at the barriers at Penang a few weeks ago. Chavez on and if he loads into the gates ok, back to Class 4 is the one to beat.
Tatik (2) finished close-up 6th in that same race to Ryan James on June 16. Will appreciate drop back to Class 4 and should be ready to show best second-up.
Posse Cat (9) strong maiden winner last start with big margins. The step up to 1400m looks ideal and can make the necessary step up in class.
Biggest Chief (6) showed good improvement second-up over the 1300m at Penang. Slowly working up to peak fitness and should be ready now third-up on home track.
Race 10. 3-2-8-11
Ocean Fantasy (3) has placed all three runs since coming from Australia with Saimee on from barrier 2 gets his chance to break through. Impressive trial winner July 24 in KL.
Royal Lawyer (2) got way too far back before chasing home the smart Home Run last start. Can position closer from barrier 6 and looks a serious chance.
City Hero (8) consistent fellow who came from a long way back when fast finishing 2nd at Penang last start. Goes good on home track and with Chavez on from barrier 3 sure to be in the finish.
Speed Ranger (11) 11 year old but has never raced better, placed last three in this Class. Go well again.
Race 12. 2-11-12-6
Sango (2) will appreciate the drop back to Class 5, should be able to lead in a race that appears to lack pace and take running down.
Shimbashi (11) yet to win a race but super consistent and should again be thereabouts.
Tuxedo Urchin (12) showed good speed down the straight at Ipoh last start. Can again race up near the lead and give a sight.
Touessrock (6) failed on the shifty Penang surface last start, but previous form very consistent. Drawn well in 5 for Wepner and will improve back on home track.
Race 6 No 1 Volpista
